6 Undeniable Signs He Still Loves You After the Breakup

In this article, I cover six signs that he loves you even after the breakup. I’ll explain what the signs really mean and how to tell the difference between true signs of love and excuses.

Relationships don’t always mean love, and love doesn’t always end when a relationship does. Learn how to tell the difference so you can avoid falling back in with someone who doesn’t feel the same way.

1. He Finds Ways to Stay in Contact with You

When someone really cares about you, they find reasons to keep talking to you. He may text you about random things that could easily go unsaid. He may send you memes, ask how your family is, or casually check in to see how you’re doing. Giving you a simple update about his day might even be his way of starting a conversation with you.

When a man truly removes you from his life, he’ll stop communicating with you over time. He won’t care about your day or want to share mundane tasks with you. If he still texts you regularly with no real reason to do so, he often still cares about you.

Don’t read too much into one text here or there. You’re looking for consistent effort to keep your relationship alive. A guy who loves you will rarely just stop talking to you for weeks on end, then reach out when it’s convenient for him.

2. He Asks About Your Life

Asking questions means he still cares. There’s a difference between being nosy and actually caring about your life. If he still periodically asks about your job, your future goals, your family, or how you’ve been handling the breakup, he often still cares about you.

Men who no longer care about an ex will usually stop pouring emotional energy into your life. But if he remembers your birthday, congratulates you on your accomplishments, and checks in when something big happens to you, those are signs he still loves you.

Furthermore, he isn’t just asking out of curiosity. He pays attention to what you tell him. He remembers important details about what you say and follows up in the future. When a guy loves you, he tends to remember the small things you tell him.

3. He Has Trouble Letting Go of the “Us” Factor

Love can make it hard to fully cut someone out of your life. Does he still keep your pictures around? Does he talk about the times you did things together? Maybe he mentions how certain places will forever remind him of you?

The people who carelessly walk away don’t look to the past. They focus on their future instead of what happened to hurt them. If he brings up the good times you had or talks about how he misses “us,” he likely still has some type of emotional attachment.

Again, this doesn’t mean he wants to get back together tomorrow. However, if your relationship ended and he’s suddenly talking about how you two made such a great team, he likely still loves you.

It’s important to point out that some people will just cut you off. They don’t look back. They don’t care about the memories, and they don’t keep pictures around. This is often because they developed little emotional attachment during the relationship.

While you can still have an emotional attachment without love, most people who form romantic connections with another person will feel some type of attachment after sharing intimate moments.

So, if he quickly ended things and stopped talking to you, he probably doesn’t love you anymore. At least not enough to try and salvage anything.

4. He Gets Jealous (a Little) When You Mention Other Guys

Seeing you with another guy doesn’t always cause a guy to turn green with envy. But if he feels even a little jealous when you talk about other men, he may still love you.

Some jealousy is healthy. He may ask questions about the new guy you’re seeing or become quiet when you talk about meeting someone. He might even call you more often after you’ve told him you’re dating other people.

Don’t confuse jealousy with manipulation. If he’s pushing you not to see other people or tries to guilt trip you into staying single, those are signs of a controlling personality. While he may still love you, you shouldn’t tolerate that kind of behavior.

Healthy jealousy isn’t about trying to control you. It’s about showing you he still cares.

5. His Words Match His Actions

Can you trust what he’s telling you? Sure, he can say he misses you all he wants. But if he’s not walking the talk, his words won’t matter.

Actions speak louder than words. If he apologizes when necessary, takes responsibility for his mistakes, works on his part of the issues that led to the breakup, and treats you with respect, then he’s likely to still love you.

While love can be shown with words, it’s proven through action. Look for a guy who is trying to become the best version of himself for you, not one who is just trying to talk you into coming back to him.

If he isn’t making an effort to talk to you, fix what happened between you two, and treat you with respect, he’s probably not coming back. That doesn’t mean he loves you anymore. It just means he doesn’t love you enough.

At the end of the day, love isn’t always enough to bring two exes back together. Compatibility matters just as much as feelings do.

If he’s not making an effort, he’s probably gone.

6. He’s Sentimental About Your Relationship Ending

It’s not a sign that he wants to get back together right away, but he also hasn’t thrown every picture of you two out or deleted all your memories from his phone.

If he still cares about you, there’s a good chance he hasn’t replaced you with someone new… yet. The biggest sign he still loves you is that he doesn’t appear to be emotionally available to other women.

Guys can still go on dates with other women when they love their ex. However, if he constantly compares other girls to you or tells you he isn’t ready to date, he may love you.

Hell, he may still be hung up on you to the point where he struggles to open up to other girls. The heart wants what it wants, and just because he isn’t talking to you doesn’t mean he isn’t feeling anything.

One of my best friends fell into this category with me. He’d told me he still loved me a few years after we stopped talking, but he still carried some resentment toward me.

He eventually realized that he could move on to new relationships, but he would always love me because of the time we spent together.

Conclusion

Remember that a guy not loving you doesn’t mean he won’t ever love again. It also doesn’t mean that he will never feel something strong for another woman down the road.

People fall in and out of love all the time. Some people lose their ability to love too. Either way, don’t waste your time with someone who isn’t putting in the effort to show you they care.

He can say he loves you until he’s blue in the face, but if he doesn’t show you, then his words are meaningless.
