15 Simple Self-Care Ideas to Make Your Sunday Awesome

Self-care is how I take care of my body, my mind, and my feelings. Those small moments when I take time to do something that will benefit my health or help me relax and feel at ease. For some people, self-care means working out, eating healthy, meditating, etc. For me, it’s those small moments where I allow myself to slow down.

I love to practice self-care on Sundays. Sunday acts as a buffer day between the weekend and the start of the workweek. So taking time to relax on Sunday really helps me to begin each week feeling rejuvenated and ready to go.

I honestly believe that if I don’t take the time to practice self-care on Sundays, my weeks are significantly more stressful. When I take time to relax and clear my mind on Sundays, I always wake up on Monday feeling sharper and more energized to take on the week.

Another reason Sundays are the perfect day for me to practice self-care is that it helps me with my mental health. I love to take the time on Sundays to sit with my feelings and clear my mind. Self-care helps me feel happier and emotionally balanced. And a bonus is when I take care of myself, I’m also able to better show up for others. I am more patient, more present, and kinder.

That’s why I wanted to create this blog post for you! Below you will find 15 simple things you can do to take care of yourself this Sunday.

15 Simple Self-Care Ideas to Make Your Sunday Awesome

1. Sleep In

Your body has been working hard all week long. Let yourself sleep in on Sunday and allow your body to recover. Sleeping in doesn’t make you lazy; it allows your body to get the rest it needs and deserves.

Wake up naturally without an alarm clock and feel more energized and ready to take on your day.

2. Reflect on What You’re Grateful For

Right when you wake up, think of 3 things that you’re grateful for. They can be simple things like “I’m grateful for my cozy blankets,” or “I’m grateful I have coffee waiting for me in the kitchen.”

Taking time to be grateful helps your brain focus on the positive things in your life, which will help you feel happier.

3. Take Your Time Enjoying Breakfast

Don’t rush through your breakfast like you usually do on week mornings. Take your time cooking yourself something you enjoy. Make it a nice breakfast you can enjoy at the table without any distractions.

Cook yourself some pancakes with fruit and whipped cream, avocado toast, or maybe even a smoothie bowl. Sit down at the table and enjoy your breakfast with a warm cup of tea or coffee.

4. Take a Walk Outside

Get outside and enjoy your day. Go to a park, take a drive, or simply walk around your neighborhood. As you walk, pay attention to your surroundings. Listen to the leaves crunch under your feet, the birds chirping, the warmth of the sun on your skin, or how cool the breeze feels.

5. Stretch Your Body

Give your body some love by stretching! Spend 10–15 minutes stretching your body with some basic movements. Reach for your toes, side bends, and take time to stretch out your arms!

If you feel like taking it a step further, you can do some basic yoga poses. Try Child’s Pose or Downward Dog.

6. Listen to Music or a Podcast

Music can drastically affect your mood. Create a playlist of songs that make you feel good. Listen to songs that uplift you, calm you, or make you want to dance around your room.

You can even listen to a podcast if you’re not in the mood for music. Whether it’s a self-development podcast, comedy, or true crime, there are tons of podcast options out there for you to explore.

7. Declutter

Cleaning may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about self-care, but trust me when I say it helps. Cluttered spaces can lead to cluttered minds. Spend 15 minutes decluttering a space that feels messy to you.

It can be your desk, a junk drawer, or even underneath your bed. Start by taking everything out of the space and sorting through what you want to keep vs. what you want to throw away. Organize things, and you’ll feel calm and accomplished once you’re finished.

8. Read a Book or Watch a Movie

This is my favorite way to practice self-care. Grab a book you’ve been dying to read or pick up an old favorite. If reading isn’t your thing today, watch a feel-good movie.

It can be a romance film, a drama, or even a kids’ movie. Whatever will make you smile and help you relax.

9. Pamper Yourself

Give yourself a mini spa day. Run yourself a bubble bath and add some bath salts or essential oils. Light a scented candle, slap on a face mask, exfoliate your skin, or paint your nails.

Do something that will help you relax and feel rejuvenated.

10. Journal

Journaling is a great way to release any lingering thoughts you have about your week. Set aside 5 minutes to write about your week.

What went well? What didn’t? What are you looking forward to? You can even use your journal to write down a to-do list for the week, things you’re grateful for, or positive affirmations.

11. Cook Something

Cooking is a fun and therapeutic way to practice self-care. Find a recipe you’d like to make. It can be pasta, salad, breakfast foods, or even dessert.

Take your time cooking yourself something you’ll enjoy eating. Cooking allows you to be creative, and the reward is a delicious meal you get to enjoy!

12. Call a Friend

Self-care can include other people! Take some time to call or text someone that brightens your day. Maybe it’s a friend, family member, or even a coworker.

Meet up for coffee, shoot some texts, or simply talk on the phone. Sometimes hearing a friendly voice or laughing about an inside joke can help remind you that you’re not alone. Socializing with others that you have positive relationships with will leave you feeling loved and cared for.

13. Plan Out Your Week

Take 15 minutes to write down your to-do list for the week, plan out your meals, or even write down a few goals that you want to accomplish this week.

When you know what you have going on for the week, you will feel more productive and ready to take things head-on.

14. Put Your Phone Away

We are constantly bombarded with social notifications and sitting at a screen all day long. Allow yourself some time to unplug from technology. Silence your phone, turn off the TV, and soak in some activities that don’t involve a screen.

Read a book, draw, write, or simply sit in silence and enjoy the present moment. By allowing yourself to unplug, you’ll feel more present.

15. Relax

Before you go to bed, take the time to actually relax. Whether you meditate, listen to music, or sit in silence and focus on your breathing. Take deep breaths and let go of any remaining stress you may have about your Sunday coming to an end.
