Let’s cut right to the chase.
Every year, I would see this pattern repeat with people:
Some people entered summer hotter, fresher, more energized, sharper, more confident.
And then there were some people who just looked… the same.
Same unorganized hair. Same mediocre diet. Same vibes. Same energy.
Instead of upgrading for summer, they just walked into a new season, while being the same version of themselves.
Let me tell you a little secret most people don’t want to hear:
Summer isn’t going to magically change your life.
If you enter the season hot-as-fuck optimized, you’ll feel like a million bucks.
If you enter the season looking like shit on the inside and out, you’re going to feel…. yourself. On better weather.
What if I told you there were a few days where you could actually prepare??
WHAT IF YOU could actually reset your mindset, look, habits, and direction before summer even starts??
12 Before Summer To-Do List That Will Reset Your Life
1. Clean Out Your Space As If You’re Moving Out
Before we dive into any personal upgrades, you need to clean out your environment.
And I mean trash everything you don’t use, organize your room, delete visual clutter kind of clean.
Why?
Because your environment subtly affects your level of discipline. If your room is messy, your mind will be messy. If your room is clean, you’re going to force yourself to be clean.
There are a few principles of environmental psychology + productivity that go hand in hand with this — cleaning your room doesn’t just give you MORE space, it also resets your mental state.

2. Fix Your Sleeping Schedule Before Summer Destroys It

If your sleep schedule is inconsistent now, it’s going to be awful during summer.
Late nights.
Irregular wake-up times.
No energy.
It all compounds. And summer will amplify every bad habit you’ve got going.
So get ahead of it now by:
- Going to sleep at the same time every night
- Stop spending every night mindlessly scrolling until 3 AM
- Have a proper nighttime routine to wind down
Why?
Sleep is the foundation for your energy levels, mood, skin appearance, focus, and pretty much everything you wish to improve.

3. Completely Declutter Your Digital Life
Your phone is arguably the number one distraction in your life.
You know it. I know it.
Be ruthless before summer hits:
- Unfollow mind-numbing Instagram accounts
- Delete pointless apps
- Turn off non-important notifications
Why?
Your attention is a limited resource. If you’re constantly being distracted by your phone, your life will feel like absolute shit even if everything around you is fine.
Learn how good habits create digital discipline and you’ll never feel drained again.

4. Build a Solid Daily Routine
Most people don’t have a time problem, they have a structure problem.
Here’s what I want you to focus on:
- Create a good morning routine
- Have a focused block of work or study
- Get your movement in
- Relax with intention
Why?
If you don’t have consistent daily structure, your summer will feel like one long pointless day.
5. Implement Movement Into Your Life Again (“No Excuses” Version)
If your body feels sluggish, your mind will feel sluggish.
There are three things I want you to focus on:
- Walking (every day)
- Some sort of movement or workout
- Stretching or home exercises
Why?
Movement is not only great for your physical appearance, it can change your energy levels, confidence, posture, and emotional state.
6. Level Up Your Grooming Game
This is where the external stuff starts to kick in.
Grooming doesn’t necessarily mean “getting rich.”
- Stick to your skincare basics
- Maintain your hair
- Practice good hygiene
- Look neat
Why?
Caring about your appearance shifts your confidence levels — sometimes before you even realize it.
7. Eliminate One Massive Time Sink
This one hits hard.
What is draining your time the most right now?
Scrolling? Procrastinating? Toxic people? Emotions?
Cut it out. Now.
Why?
You don’t need to find more motivation to better yourself. You need to stop making yourself distracted.
8. Set Clear Goals for the Summer
Stop walking into summer with ZERO direction.
Here’s what I want you to nail down:
- 1 personal goal
- 1 health goal
- 1 skill or income goal
Why?
Having clear goals means little to no confusion. And when you have less confusion, you retain more consistency.
This is also where goal-setting psychology can start benefiting your life.
9. Clean Out and Define Your Style

You don’t need a new wardrobe. You need alignment.
Take a good look into your closet and ask yourself:
Does this fit me?
Do I like how this fits?
How does this make me feel?
Remove anything that doesn’t check these 3 boxes.
Why?
How you dress often translates to how you feel. How you feel can translate to how you behave.
10. Do a Mental Reset by Journaling
Take out a pen and paper and write down:
- What’s currently making you stressed?
- What are you sick of?
- What do you want to improve?
Why?
Most people haven’t properly mentally decluttered themselves until they sit down and write how they feel.
Practice one of the simplest forms of mental detox.
11. Fix Your “Energy Levels” Around You
Notice I didn’t say friends.
Pay attention to who’s bringing you down and who’s bringing you UP.
Start investing more time into people who inspire you to grow.
Limit who you let emotionally drain you.
Why?
Surrounding yourself with negative energy will always pull you down more than any motivational video will push you up.
12. Figure Out Who You Want to Be This Summer
This is by far the most important step.
STOP focusing on what you want to do.
FIGURE OUT who you want to be.
Who do you want to become this summer?
- What type of person shows up?
- What type of habits do they have?
- What type of shit don’t they tolerate?
Why?
When you define your identity and who you wish to become, you automatically start to eliminate behaviors that don’t align with your NEW identity.
Final Thoughts
Summer is coming. And if you show up the same way you did last year, you’re going to have… another “same shit, different clothes” summer.
But if you take these 12 things and actually apply them to your life?
You’re going to walk into summer better than you were last summer.
Period.
Before Summer Hits FAQ
When is the best time to start preparing for summer?
The sooner you start, the better. I’d say start right now if you can.
Do I have to do all 12 steps?
No, but you should try to at least understand and apply the concepts of each step.
What are the 3 most important steps?
Cleaning your mental and physical space, fixing your sleep schedule, and building a proper routine.
Can I do this during summer rather than before summer?
Sure, but doesn’t “preparing for summer” defeat the purpose?
Why do people always fail their new year/summer goals?
They rely on motivation instead of structure, identity, and habit formation.
