Life becomes full quickly. Not only with objects, but also with minds, customs, relations and distractions. They begin stealing your time, your peace and your energy when things pile up too much. Choose a very small space, a drawer, a shelf, a table to start with. Eliminate the non-serving-things. In case you have not used it in months or it does not bring any value, give it away or discard it. Take what satisfies and makes you happy. The remaining is only noise.
