10 Must-Do Things to Make 2026 Your Best Year Yet

It’s crazy how fast another new year has arrived! Each year feels like an opportunity for me to hit reset. Out with the old. In with new beginnings, big dreams, and more self-authority.

If you’re ready to reach your goals this year—BIG goals—then 2026 is the year to make it happen.

In this post, I outline 10 unique actions you can take this year to transform your life. We’ll dig into strategies that go beyond “typical” self-improvement advice. I’m talking life-changing actions you can start right now:

  • Brave decisions
  • Powerful systems
  • Intentional growth

These aren’t fluffy “new year, new you” tips. We’re getting specific—and you’re going to love the results.

1. Set Goals That Inspire Change

Take inventory of your goals for the year. And I don’t mean silly resolutions that you forget by February. I’m talking goals that stir something inside you. Goals that excite you. Goals that scare you just a little.

Think about what you’d love to achieve this year. Maybe you want to launch a business, run a marathon, or publish your first book. Whatever your goals are for 2026, take the time to brainstorm how you can accomplish them.

Write them down in vivid details. Hang them somewhere you’ll see daily. And check in on your goals weekly to keep yourself accountable.

2. Design Your Ideal Morning Routine

Design your mornings to set yourself up for success every day. Whether that means adding new habits or continuing what you had last year. You can try starting your mornings with positive affirmations, meditation, journaling, or visualization.

Wake up at the same time every day (give or take 30 minutes) and allow yourself a few moments of silence before jumping out of bed. Get your body moving with some form of exercise—yoga, stretching, walking.

Follow your movement with meditation or another mindfulness practice. Something that grounds you for the day and keeps you focused.

Another tip: stack your habits. Try pairing a new habit with one you already practice. Like stretching while you brew your coffee or reading an audiobook on your morning commute.

Your morning routine should evolve as your life does. Experiment until you find a rhythm that feels productive and fun.

3. Declutter Your Space

Everything you surround yourself with has an impact on your mindset. If you want to transform your life this year, start by cleaning house—literally.

Eliminate the people, objects, and activities that no longer serve you. Donate old clothes. Clear out home decor you don’t like. Delete apps you never use. Make your space a reflection of the you that you’re becoming.

You can also spruce up your workspace. Try creating a productivity zone for when you need to focus. Build a cozy nook for reading and relaxing. Or design a vision wall to display your dreams.

Add plants, additional lighting, or inspirational quotes. Tidy up your home and give it a makeover that inspires you.

4. Prioritize Wellness

Invest in your health this year by thinking holistically. In addition to eating healthy and working out, try small practices that improve your mindset and spiritual health.

This could look like meditation, cold showers, journaling, or intermittent fasting (see how I feel after my first 24-hour fast!).

You can also look into wellness programs that align with your needs. Personal training programs or nutrition coaching are great places to start.

And as always, make sure you’re setting yourself up for success with good sleep hygiene. Aim to wake up and sleep at the same time every day and build a relaxing nighttime routine.

Your body needs energy to keep going—fuel it with the right habits.

5. Learn a New Skill

Pick one skill to learn this year and commit to becoming great at it. It can be anything that will benefit you long-term, like public speaking, graphic design, or writing.

Schedule regular time each week to practice your skill. Whether that’s a few hours each week or an hour a day.

Look into marketable skills you can add to your repertoire. Things like coding, video editing, data analysis, or content marketing are always in demand.

Research your industry and learn skills that will not only help you professionally but make you more confident overall.

Use online learning programs, workshops, mentorships, or community groups to keep yourself accountable. By the end of 2026, you could have a new career because of this one skill.

6. Build Strong Relationships

This year, choose to deepen the relationships you already have. Spend time with friends and family that feed your soul—those you trust and who challenge you to grow.

Have people over for dinner, start a book club, or take a class together. Invest time into learning what your loved ones need and want. Then find ways to support them.

Build small traditions with your friends and family. Whether that’s weekly check-ins, a shared experience, or sending each other uplifting quotes.

You should also distance yourself from anyone who doesn’t support your growth. Remember: you can’t control other people’s reactions, but you can control how much you let them into your life.

7. Practice Daily Reflection

Start and end your day by writing down things you’re grateful for. Spend a few minutes reflecting on your day and the lessons you learned.

Not only will gratitude reduce your negative emotions, but journaling can improve your overall well-being.

Your daily gratitude journal can include prompts like:

  • What are 3 things I’m grateful for?
  • What did I learn today?
  • What challenged me today? How did I handle it?
  • What are ways I’m improving myself?

8. Invest in Yourself

Time is your most precious commodity. Spend your time wisely this year by investing in yourself.

Stop trying to “manage your time” and start looking at it as an investment. You should be investing your time into things that return the greatest value to you.

Start by doing a time audit. Keep track of how you spend your time throughout the day. Where can you eliminate time-suck habits?

You can practice time-blocking to guard your time. Try the Pomodoro Technique to stay on task. Or limit distractions by turning off your notifications or using full-screen mode.

When you value your time, your reward will be incredible progress.

9. Take Calculated Risks

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. 2026 is the year you start stepping outside of yours.

What risks can you take this year that will have a payoff later on? Start a side hustle based on a hobby you’re passionate about. Go for that job opportunity even if you don’t meet all of their qualifications.

Apply for that dream internship—even though you’re “overqualified.” Put yourself out there and take chances on yourself.

Just remember to do your due diligence first. We’re talking about calculated risks, not burning your entire savings on lottery tickets.

Once you take that leap of faith, record your journey. You’ll feel more confident and remind yourself just how amazing you are.

10. Celebrate Yourself

Your transformation doesn’t happen overnight. And it’s important to celebrate your wins along the way.

Create celebrations for yourself each time you reach a milestone. You reached your goals this year, so enjoy it!

Write about your accomplishments. Treat yourself to something you’ve wanted. Share your victories with someone who continues to support you.

Be willing to pivot if something doesn’t work for you. Learn what goals you’d like to reach next and start laying the groundwork.

There’s always room for improvement. Remember that, and you’re sure to have a transformative 2026.
